As members of the March 2020 UX-UI Bootcamp for Ironhack, we were asked to develop exercises and challenges that will allow us to delve into the world we will try to become professionals in. This is the third of this series.

For this exercise, we were asked to replicate a series of screens from an application of our choice, using either Sketch, Figma or Adobe XD.

In my case, I used Figma, as it seems to be the one I will most likely be working with in the future for its functionality and features.

Figma, to be perfectly honest, seems like a very natural jump to me from working with tools like Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Any designer will be able to get it and feel comfortable easily. The interface really is quite intuitive, much more so than the aforementioned programs. It has the component library options, which I’m sure will come in handy much more when designing from scratch than when attempting to replicate a pre-existing app.

I look forward to working with the libraries with my own illustration elements, as there seems to be endless potential to this particular point.

Some of the images I traced with the vector tool, and to save time, I cut out the more elaborate ones. The compatibility with Photoshop is perfectly seamless, which I loved.

The application I chose to replicate is called Econduce. It’s a scooter rental app exclusive to Mexico City. I think their UX and UI are brilliant and decided to replicate the ‘How to Use’ section of the app, as well as the main function screen, to find and reserve the vehicles.

I also like the way the layers are individual per element. It allows a much easier workflow which cannot be achieved in other programs. Figma works very lightly and easily, and the fact that you can just pick up on your work despite not having the Desktop app is, I think, my favorite thing of all.

I look forward to designing from scratch in order to discover all the functions I’ve yet to test.
